Jay Inslee
Jay Inslee is a member of the US House of Representatives, representing the 1st Congressional District of Washington State.
Raised on the shores of Puget Sound, Inslee learned from his parents at an early age the importance of conservation. He has worked at the federal level – as representative for the 4th Congressional District from 1992–1994 and the 1st Congressional District since 1999 – to protect the environment of Washington State and to address broad environmental issues like global warming. He’s fought to restore protections for roadless areas in national forests and led a successful campaign in the House to keep limits on oil-tanker traffic in Puget Sound.
Since 2005, Congressman Inslee has used his seat on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee to promote his vision for a clean energy future, the New Apollo Energy Act. In 2006, he was appointed to the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, where he has advanced aspects of his comprehensive energy bill and other measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Inslee graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, magna cum laude, from Williamette University School of Law in 1976 and before that, earned a B.A. in economics from University of Washington. He co-authored, with Bill Clinton and Bracken Hendricks, a book on the clean-energy revolution entitled Apollo’s Fire: Igniting America’s Clean Energy Economy, Island Press, 2007.
