Summary
 The 11 participants who gathered for Humanity 3000 Seminar 5 brought together expertise in anthropology, psychiatry, philosophy, nanotechnology, social complexity, cognitive ethics, physics, genetics, science history, and ecological/economical sustainability.
The three most critical issues for the next thousand years, as determined by these scholars, were described as: (1) Human identity and threats: Positive cooperation in an identity beyond nationhood in the context of a major, perceived, shared global threat, (2) Finding ways to bounce back when disasters happen, and
(3) Designing an organizational solution that can mitigate or eliminate the possibility of collapse of collective welfare. These critical issues were discussed at length in fishbowl dialogues.
A formal debate was engaged on the resolution: “It is resolved that terrorism manifests a clash of civilizations and is a war without end.” The final vote narrowly defeated the debate resolution.
