“Humans and Space: The Next Thousand Years”

Summary
 “Where will humans be in space in the next thousand years? What should the goals be? What technologies and what planetary organization here on Earth will be required?” Nineteen leaders from six countries and from agencies or institutions focused on, or interested in, the future of humans in space gathered to address these issues for three days in June 2005.
“Humans and Space: The Next Thousand Years” was conducted as a workshop of the Humanity 3000 Program, which regularly reviews historical cultural, scientific, and technological trends along with today’s emerging technologies to consider the question: Where does humanity go from here?
The three issues deemed by this group of experts to be the most critical for humanity’s ventures into space in the next millennium were: the social and political considerations, low-cost access to space, and technical survivability.
